David Twellman was one of the founding faculty members of the IPT with Ave Maria in the spring of 2001. He served as Director of the Institute from 2003 to 2006 and is currently serving as a full-time faculty member. He has also had the experience of participating in the Institute's M.T.S. program as a student and brings a broad background to his work serving the students.
Prior to his conversion to the Catholic faith in 1999, Dr. Twellman spent eighteen years in ministry in the United Methodist Church, during which time he and his wife Terri home schooled their two children, Mary and David. As a United Methodist pastor, he served churches in the North Texas area, and worked in ecumenical and social justice ministries, and in the training and supervision of lay pastoral associates.
His work in Semitics and Old Testament studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and in Pre-Reformation traditions in Christian Spirituality at Southern Methodist University have provided him with unique perspectives in teaching the Catholic faith. His academic interests include the history of Catholic scripture interpretation in the 20th century, Biblical Theology, and exegesis of the Minor Prophets.
Dr. Twellman lives in Canton,
Michigan, and enjoys birding excursions and wildlife photography.
