Desiring deeper
and more responsible participation in the life and mission of
the Church, increasing numbers of people seek an advanced, systematic
understanding of their Catholic Faith. Although we have been blessed
with the enrollment of a number of religious, priests and permanent
deacons, the vast majority of our students are lay faithful. They
range in age from 22 to 75; many of our students have families
and typically are employed on a full-time basis.
- Many of
our students seek to prepare for or advance in apostolates and
services in areas such as family life, marriage preparation,
evangelization, religious education and catechesis, RCIA, youth
ministry, Catholic education, apologetics, liturgy, and social
justice.
- Others
participate for faith enrichment, to enhance the most fundamental
form of service in the Church-a holy life, building the Kingdom
of God in family, work, and culture.
Whether seeking
an MTS degree for reasons of professional preparation, personal
growth, or enriching the lay apostolate, our students are provided
with a means of exercising the right and fulfilling the obligation
to be formed in a way related to their role in the Church.
"Lay
persons are bound by the obligation and possess the right to
acquire knowledge of Christian doctrine
so that they can
live in accord with that doctrine
and be enabled to assume
their role in exercising the apostolate. Lay persons also possess
the right to aquire that deeper knowledge of the sacred sciences
which are taught in institutes of religious sciences by attending
classes and obtaining academic degrees."
