THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION

As "faith seeking understanding" of what God has revealed, theology unfolds the deepest meaning of the truth about God and the truth about man fully revealed in Jesus Christ. We believe that theological investigation is always a re-discovery and deeper probing of the fact that "By love, God has revealed himself and given himself to man. He has thus provided the definitive, superabundant answer to the questions that man asks himself about the meaning and purpose of life" (CCC, 68). The pastoral relevance of doctrine is rooted in this conviction. We believe that as faith is better understood, it is more fully possessed, more easily accompanied by witness, and more readily communicated to others.

"Faith seeks understanding:  it is intrinsic to faith that a believer desires to know better the One in whom he has put his faith and to understand better what He has revealed; a more penetrating knowledge will in turn call forth a greater faith, increasingly set afire by love."
