Douglas Bushman, Director, Professor

Courses: Spirituality, Ecclesiology, Pastoral Theology, Catechesis, John Paul II and Vatican II.

Before joining Ave Maria University, Mr. Bushman served as a parish Lay Theologian and a diocesan Coordinator of Education, directing programs of adult religious education, catechist formation and formation for permanent deacons. Most recently, Professor Bushman spent nine years developing a highly successful graduate program in Religious and Pastoral Studies. His work in this field has been recognized from coast to coast, and he brings significant expertise and resources to Ave Maria University.

Besides numerous articles in Catholic magazines, he is the author of In His Image: Program of Renewal Through Education (1990), introductions to a new publication of The Sixteen Documents of Vatican II (1999) and several articles in the Catholic Encyclopedia of Apologetics and Evangelization (2002).

His academic work is complemented by appearances on Catholic radio and television, and participation in several education-related apostolates, including; ProLife Minnesota, the Image of God religion textbook series, and the Millennium Evangelization Project. He gives lectures and retreats on a wide range of theological and spiritual topics for various groups, such as parents, parish staffs, young adults, catechists, seminarians and teachers.

Professor Bushman and his wife, JoAnn, home school their six children in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
